Democracy in Iran

By Farhad Mafie mafie@worldnet.att.net

Here we go again. The supporters of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) have invited Ms. Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State, to collaborate with them in their struggle to give a temporary facelift to one of the world 's most inhuman and corrupt governments, the IRI.

While the Iranian people are suffering under the IRI's oppressive and tyrannical government, certain well-funded individuals and organizations are doing their best to further legitimize and strengthen this totalitarian and barbaric government and perhaps worse, welcome it into the world community. In the process some well-known Americas such as Ms. Albright are supporting these puppets and their master. Why? To normalize U.S. relations with Iran, obviously without any regard for the Iranian people's struggle for a secular and democratic government. As if normalized relations between the U.S. and Iran will actually help democratize Iran. How ridiculous. These people should visit U.S. allies such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, to see how these governments, with support of the U.S., are oppressing their people every single day.

The issue at hand is not relations between the U.S. and Iran. The key issue is the support of Ms. Albright and other officials for a government that supports and promotes terrorism, the Islamic Republic of Iran. Instead of worrying about the interests of oil companies, Ms. Albright and others should concentrate first on supporting the freedom-seeking people of Iran and helping the Iranian people with their worthy cause, namely, establishing a secular and democratic government. In the long run, the interests of the oil companies and big business will be served anyway, but with one key difference: The contacts would be signed with a new government that has the respect of the Iranian people as well as of the world community.

The IRI, in all its colors and flavors, MUST GO.

The IRI and its infamous smiling president are imprisoning, torturing, murdering, decapitating, and stoning innocent Iranians who are asking for basic freedom and basic living standards. Mr. Khatami has continuously named those who demonstrated for political freedom as a gang of hooligans, his reason for imprisoning, torturing, and slaughtering them without compassion.

As a result, organizations that work directly for and with the IRI and benefit from what remains of the Pahlavi Foundation (now called the Alavi Foundation) funds in the U.S. are, despite their illustrious members, nothing but servants for a corrupt government.

Any action that further legitimizes and strengthens the fascist IRI government is condemned by the Iranian people, today, tomorrow, forever. History has proven over and over again that all totalitarian governments are eventually condemned and that freedom-seeking people will eventually prevail. And history has also shown that collaborating with such dark forces is only a short-term gain for the corrupt.

P.S. Islamic Iran has its reformist wing and its conservative wing. Two wings, just like any other vulture.
